THE LANCHESTER GROUP
We believe every business has a duty of care to minimise its impact on the environment, which is why The Lanchester Group has worked tirelessly over the last two decades to ensure sustainability is at our core. Unfortunately, there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution when it comes to sustainability and so we’ve invested considerably to identify which changes we can make to lessen our effect on our planet.
Our business’ greatest opportunity to make a change is through minimising our reliance on fossil fuels. As such, we’ve invested over £13million in renewable heat and energy generation at our sites across the North of England and today our business is powered predominantly by renewable wind and solar energy.
THE LANCHESTER GROUP SUMMARY
A group of businesses under private family ownership. Our businesses include:
- Lanchester Wines, a UK wine importer and wine merchant with a passion for quality, heartfelt service and pushing wine beyond its current frontiers.
- Greencroft Bottling, one of the UK’s leading wine bottling facilities fulfilling packaging for most of the world’s leading wine businesses and retailers. Our Greencroft Two facility officially opened in 2024 – this 22,000m2 building is the UK’s most modern and most sustainable wine bottling facility.
Our three wind turbines can generate around 5 million kWh of clean, renewable electricity per year, which we use to run operations at our site in County Durham
We have installed 3 Megawatts of solar panels on the roof of Greencroft Two which will create around 2.8m kilowatt hours of electricity per year. We also have a 42kW solar array on the roof of Lanchester Wines’ offices which generates enough power to cover our day-to-day use.
Our x2 Open Loop Water Source Heat Pumps, with a combined capacity of 4MW of heat, use geothermally heated water from disused mineworkings below our warehouse to maintain an ambient temperature in our 33,445m2 (360,000 ft2) of warehouse space.
