Georg Toifl originates from Kleinhöflein near Retz in the northwestern Weinviertel region and is the youngest of three children. His family’s winery has been in family ownership since 1958, when it was transferred from Elisabeth and Viktor Pollak to his grandparents Angela and Herbert Toifl- due to the Pollak`s childlessness. Managed conventionally over several generations, the estate shaped Georg Toifl’s agricultural upbringing from an early age.
Following the path of his father and older brother, Georg Toifl attended the Higher Federal College for Viticulture and Pomology in Klosterneuburg. During his education, he gained extensive practical experience at renowned wineries in Austria and abroad, working in both conventionally and organically operated enterprises. His time at the organically managed Geyerhof winery proved particularly formative, significantly influencing his later approach to sustainable viticulture.
After completing his secondary education in 2008, he served his civilian service as a paramedic with the Red Cross in Retz. In 2010, he took over the family winery, which he has since operated under the name Weingut Georg Toifl. Today, the estate comprises 25 hectares of vineyards in Kleinhöflein, Retz, Ragelsdorf, and Obritz and is Regenerative Organic certified. The primary varieties cultivated include Grüner Veltliner, Gemischter Satz, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, St. Laurent, complemented by Blauer Zweigelt and Blauer Portugieser.
