Maria was born in Spain where she studied Medicine and Surgery at the Complutense University of Madrid, completing her specialty at Saint George’s Hospital of the University of London and Hospital Clínico de Madrid.
During her time at Johnson & Johnson and after finishing her Master’s Degree in Business Administration at IE in Madrid, she was invited to come to Mexico to relaunch Laparoscopic Surgery, and for 20 years she was directing different franchises of the multinational in different countries for Latin America.
As a result of obtaining a Diploma in Global Warming from the University of Melbourne, an interest in ecology and sustainability was awakened. At that time, after a trip to Valle de Guadalupe, she wanted to increase her knowledge of winemaking and make her first barrel to offer it in the gatherings she gave at home.
She studied the winemaking process at La Estación de Oficios del Porvenir and completed a Diploma in sommelier training “The World of Wine; Educating the Senses” at Universidad Iberoamericana.
Together with her partner Joaquín she decided to retire and set up the Clos de Tres Cantos project at Valle de Guadalupe. A sustainable, supportive and certified social responsibility winery and the first to develop a Code of Ethics for a winery in Mexico, based on three pillars: For the Planet, For the Person and For the Community.
Currently, in addition to being Executive Director of the winery, she is a Delegate of Slow Wine Coalition Mexico and speaker at The Porto Protocol after the inclusion of Clos de Tres Cantos and Mexico as members.
