Ontario Wine Bottle Reuse Report
Developed by Circulr (a Porto Protocol member) and Environmental Defence Canada, with modelling support from Eunomia, this report explores the opportunity for large-scale wine bottle reuse in Ontario. It assesses the economic, environmental and social impacts of replacing single-use bottles with refillable ones, showing potential reductions in both costs and greenhouse gas emissions, alongside benefits for local jobs and supply-chain resilience. It also highlights the practical conditions needed to make reuse work, including bottle standardisation, strong return systems, shared infrastructure and industry collaboration.
