Energy

Being carbon neutral is just the beginning

We believe being carbon neutral is just the beginning. Being a sustainable wine business is very important to us, which is why we’ve invested heavily in renewable energy and heat generation. There are many ways to approach a sustainability or carbon footprint strategy and much is dependent on the activities of that company. The Lanchester Group runs a commercial sustainability strategy, which helps us prioritise the biggest impact projects which also make financial sense. Our operations on the Greencroft Estate are powered by three wind turbines which produce around 5,500,000 kWh (kilowatt hours) of clean, renewable electricity per year. We presently use around 42% of this electricity...

Green Flow – High Efficiency Fume Hoods

Potential environmental impacts were a concern to Laborial, and early on the company sought to find opportunities to reduce our footprint. With this concern, since 2015, Laborial is a formally certified company by ISO 14001 standard that provides practical tools to manage our environmental responsibilities. We assume life cycle analyses as needed, as well as environmental challenges such as climate change. The energy consumption of equipment and buildings is, increasingly, a concern present in daily routines, and is also important in the performance of laboratory spaces. In any modern laboratory, fume cupboards are fundamental to conducting extremely difficult and risky tests, ensuring the security required...

Small gestures, big consequences

Since its foundation, Amado & Almeida Santos has been concerned with the environment. Being a law firm, it did not seem that there were many behaviours that could be adopted with the goal to contribute to a better environment. However, every day we try to be meticulous and improve to avoid waste. We are aware that our Planet is the only one we have, and that it is up to all of us, in both our personal and professional lives, to choose to do something. Because we believe that even the simplest, smallest gestures can translate into major contributions in the long run, if only...

Striving for Sustainability

The project was to evaluate, and implement and measure the benefits of a solar power system for the Epona Winery in Woodland, WA, USA, towards the goal of reaching renewable energy independence. Motivation: Although electricity prices in this area are low, due to the primary source of generation being hydropower, we wanted to make the property fully energy-independent, using a renewable energy source. Wind is too mild here for wind power, and we do not have enough moving water on the property for hydropower. So, we focused on solar panels. Activities: We researched the competing solar panel installers/providers and chose Green Light Solar...

SAMSYS and Solar Panels

Electricity is a basic need for our work at Samsys, but we are conscious of the impact of excessive energy consumption on the environment. Indeed, energy is the main contributor to the production of greenhouse gases, followed by devastating deforestation. Conscious of this impact, we began to consider investing in renewable energies, such as solar panels that generate heat and electricity for self-consumption, that would bring long-term financial advantages. In this way, we are helping to protect a cleaner environment without releasing into the atmosphere noxious gases such as carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and mercury. After concluding that solar panels do not pollute the atmosphere and that...

Eco-Schools Programme

These projects are notorious examples of promoting the principles of a circular economy by Corticeira Amorim, while reflecting its strong social impact. Since the beginning of the projects, more than 550 million cork stoppers have been collected for recycling and donated more than 1.5 M€ for social causes and reforestation....
