Weingut Ebner-Ebenauer
We have set ourselves the goal of making wines as an expression of our ideas; we exchange opinions on a wine before we press the grapes.
WEINGUT EBNER-EBENAUER COMPANY SUMMARY
Marion Ebner left home at the tender age of 16 to begin her winemaking career with the highly respected Fritz Wieninger, but her big break came when she bought some Grüner Veltliner fruit from Schloss Gobelsburg and aged it in new oak barrels to create a wine called Melusine. The critics went wild for it and Marion established herself as one of the most exciting young winemakers in Austria. Today Marion and her husband Manfred Ebenauer run their 10 hectare estate in Weinviertal on the land that Manfred’s family have farmed for generations – the couple took the reins in 2007.
Despite their youth, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate proclaims that Marion and Manfred have “already pulled into the qualitative forefront of their region” and there is no doubt that they are producing wines of startling quality and value for money. The style is one of elegance and freshness, with superb intensity and grip married to bright fruit on the palate. The Grüner and Riesling are fermented and aged in tank, left on the lees for seven months and then bottled in late spring.
